Our Teachers

"The art of teaching, is the art of assisting discovery."

My name is Alison Hill. I am the owner & director at Happy Hearts Preschool. I have been caring for children for over sixteen years and taught kindergarten in Petaluma for three.  I originally opened Happy Hearts in my home in 2011.  A back bedroom classroom, quickly turned into a converted garage.  In 2016, I realized it was time to spread my wings and open a school outside of my home.  We have been on the fairgrounds for five years and just celebrated our school turning 10 years old! I take great pride in providing a safe and loving environment where children can become life time learners and lovers of the earth.

I have two children of my own, a little girl named Izzy Jane, who's ten years old, and a little boy Marshall Dylan, who's almost eight.  I am a longtime Petaluman, born and raised.  I originally opened Happy Hearts because I love teaching young children. I am a strong believer in PLAY, PLAY, PLAY.  Allowing children this important time gives them the freedom to explore and discover the world around them.

Miss Alison
Owner & Director

Mrs.Nau comes to us with 30 years teaching. She taught for 17 years at Happy Days Presbyterian Preschool and left to teach at Cherry Valley's NBCC the last 9 years, until 2016, where she came to be with us. How lucky are we?!

Mrs.Nau is also a Former City Council member, vice mayor and has served on numerous community boards. She even earned the Petaluma Good Egg Award in 1995! (Not to mention she’s the best mom & grandma ever! And I’m not biased at all…)

Mrs.Nau has training in ECERS (designing early childhood environments), Handwriting Without Tears, as well as carries a director’s & lead teacher’s certification through the Santa Rosa Junior College.

Miss Seana

Hi, I’m Seana and the assistant director here at Happy Hearts, where I have been since 2016.  I’m a born and raised Petaluman, and the youngest of three.  I am a proud auntie of five nieces and nephews.  I’ve always loved being around children.  Growing up, I was often fascinated with the way children look at the world.  I started babysitting when I was thirteen and still do to this day!

I have my BA from Sonoma State as well as my teaching credential.  In fall of 2021, I plan to move on to teaching elementary school- but my heart will always be at Happy Hearts.

Living and working in Petaluma is so wonderful because we have such a strong community.  My sixth grade teacher Mrs.Gochberg was the person who inspired me to become a teacher.  She was able to teach me to always do my best and go beyond your limits.  I think teaching is a really rewarding career and I’m honored to be a part of the Happy Hearts team.

Miss Shay

Our newest Sprouts Lead Teacher!

Welcome Miss Shay!

Hi! My name is Shay Bacon and I am so happy to be a part of the Happy hearts community and your child’s early education journey! I was born and raised in Santa Rosa and have lived in Petaluma for the past 25 years raising my three daughters with my husband. I love this town and am so excited to contribute to the next generation of this community.

I attended Santa Rosa Junior College where I received my early childhood education degree. Since then I have worked in ECE for a cumulative 18 years.

I believe in a play based approach to learning where children can explore and cultivate a lifelong love for learning and curiosity. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child’s experience!

Miss Emma

I have been at Happy Hearts for the past two years.  I have known I wanted to work with children for as long as I can remember. My mother claims that I came home from kindergarten one day exclaiming that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I’ve been babysitting since I was about 12 years old. I’ve been working professionally with children ages 5 weeks-5 years for 2 years now. I love to sing, read, write, paint, and so much more! My favorite color is green and my favorite flower is the sunflower.

I recently graduated from Sonoma State University and am finishing up my student teaching for my credential. Although I will head to elementary in the fall, I plan to still visit Happy Hearts when I can as a substitute.
