"The art of teaching, is the art of assisting discovery."
My name is Alison Hill. I am the owner & director at Happy Hearts Preschool. I have been caring for children for over fifteen years and taught kindergarten in Petaluma for three. I originally opened Happy Hearts in my home in 2011. A back bedroom classroom, quickly turned into a converted garage. In 2016, I realized it was time to spread my wings and open a school outside of my home.
I have two children of my own, a little girl named Izzy Jane, who's eight years old, and a little boy Marshall Dylan, who's six. I am a longtime Petaluman, born and raised. I originally opened Happy Hearts because I love teaching young children. I am a strong believer in PLAY, PLAY, PLAY. Allowing children this important time gives them the freedom to explore and discover the world around them.
Owner & Director
Mrs.Nau comes to us with 30 years teaching. She taught for 17 years at Happy Days Presbyterian Preschool and left to teach at Cherry Valley's NBCC the last 9 years, until 2016, where she came to be with us. How lucky are we?!
Mrs.Nau is also a Former City Council member, vice mayor and has served on numerous community boards. She even earned the Petaluma Good Egg Award in 1995! (Not to mention she’s the best mom & grandma ever! And I’m not biased at all…)
Mrs.Nau has training in ECERS (designing early childhood environments), Handwriting Without Tears, as well as carries a director’s & lead teacher’s certification through the Santa Rosa Junior College.
Hi, I’m Seana. I’m a born and raised Petaluman, and the youngest of three. I am a proud auntie of five nieces and nephews. I’ve always loved being around children. Growing up, I was often fascinated with the way children look at the world. I started babysitting when I was thirteen and still do to this day!
I have my Associate Teacher’s Certificate from the Santa Rosa Junior College. I am currently attending Sonoma State to get my credential in Early Childhood Education. I hope to teach first grade one day and stay in Petaluma. Living and working in Petaluma is so wonderful because we have such a strong community. My sixth grade teacher Mrs.Gochberg was the person who inspired me to become a teacher. She was able to teach me to always do my best and go beyond your limits. I think teaching is a really rewarding career and I’m honored to be a part of the Happy Hearts team.
Hello! I am Andrea. I am an Early Childhood Educator from the town of Petaluma. I was born and raised in Sonoma County and am the eldest of five. I am a proud auntie of three nephews and two nieces, with another nephew and niece on the way! I love working with children. I come from a medical background with education and work in pediatric psychology and family practice. I am CPR/First Aid Certified. I obtained my Administrative and Clinical Medical Assisting Certifications with focus in Pediatrics from Boston Reed College, and attended the SRJC and the College of Marin where I completed coursework towards my A.S. in Early Childhood Education.
I love to cook, garden, travel and explore. I believe in the play-to-learn teaching philosophy, and think it is important to foster creativity in and out of the classroom.
I plan to continue to further my education in ECE while teaching, because one thing I’ve learned about this field, is that there is always something new to learn! A very inspiring ECE professor, once gave me an important quote- “The day you become a teacher is the day you realize you are always a learner” ~ Unknown.
I am honored to be teaching and learning here at Happy Hearts Preschool!
Hi! My name is Hilary Schmidt, I was born in San Francisco and raised in San Anselmo. I grew up in the country riding horses and climbing trees. I have been living in Petaluma for 10 years with my husband and 2 kids, Mia, 13 and Nate, 12. We love this little town and I’m so grateful to be raising my kids here. After being fortunate enough to stay at home with my kids, I went back to school and earned my associate teaching credential. I have been babysitting since age 12, put myself through art school as a nanny and spent many hours chaperoning, being a playground supervisor and volunteering in my kids classrooms. Working with kids is a very rewarding job. I love observing and facilitating children's joy and wonder of life. I believe all children are unique individuals that need to be respected and given plenty of space, time, patience and love to learn and grow. Kids learn by playing, and I believe letting them explore materials and the environment freely (and safely) is important. A short list of things I love are: being a mom, animals, being in nature, hiking, traveling, other cultures, languages, art, sewing, thrift stores, yoga and much more!
Hi Happy Hearts families! My name is Kristin Jucutan and I am so thrilled to be the newest teacher at this wonderful school! I was born and raised here in Petaluma and happily married to my high school sweetheart. I am a mom of two girls: Jadin (9) and Makenna (7) and they both currently attend Mary Collins school at Cherry Valley. I attended the Santa Rosa Junior College where I earned my early childhood education for a preschool teacher. I was lucky enough to stay home and raise my two girls, but I am excited to get back into the work world. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of your students!
I have known I wanted to work with children for as long as I can remember. My mother claims that I came home from kindergarten one day exclaiming that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I’ve been babysitting since I was about 12 years old. I’ve been working professionally with children ages 5 weeks-5 years for 2 years now. I love to sing, read, write, paint, and so much more! My favorite color is green and my favorite flower is the sunflower. I am currently a student at Sonoma State University and I plan to go on to be an elementary school teacher in a few years, but not until I’ve spent enough time teaching the younger students in our community. I’m so excited to meet all of the wonderful children and families I will be working with soon!
My name is Roxane Morrow, I was raised here in Petaluma and am now raising my 5-year-old son here, and also have my 2nd child on the way. I have always loved working with children and knew I wanted to be a teacher while going to college. I got my Associate Teacher Certificate when I was 19 and I taught at a licensed preschool for a little over four years as a lead Infant and Toddler teacher. I have my Associate of Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences. I am so excited to be a new part of the Happy Hearts team. My son attended Happy Hearts when they first opened on the fairgrounds and I have always felt like this group of teachers has been some of the best around. I have loved getting to know the children so far and can’t wait to continue working with them and watching them grow.
