Thinking about TK
versus Pre-K?

"To anyone who is debating sending their kid to TK or staying one more year in preschool this is for you. Being in the same boat last year, I can honestly say from experience… they won’t fall behind and they won’t feel left out. Staying one more year at Happy Hearts gave them extra time to be a kid, more outside time, smaller ratio to learn and gave them the space to develop their confidence. It was the best decision we made for our kids and they were given the tools they needed for a smooth transition into kindergarten. Happy Hearts felt like family and it was just what they needed at that age and I’m so happy they had that extra time to play and be a kid and have a flexible schedule. Now in kindergarten they are thriving and just on par with their peers. Like I said. Best decision we made. "

"Our decision to keep our kiddo in Happy Hearts during his TK year, was a thoughtful decision weighted by a couple of factors. Our first deciding factor was his late exposure to a school/daycare setting. We did not start him at Happy Hearts until he was almost three years old. Up until that point he had been at home with us or grandparents. So our first year was about transitioning him out of home care exclusively. He attended three days a week, which was a good every other day clip. This was a great first step for us all and it started him down the regular school path. After his first year at Happy Hearts we saw so much growth in our son. He got comfortable with parallel play and gently guided out of his comfort zones, but always given the opportunity to go at his own pace. He watched his peers and learned from them. Essentially we felt he was doing exactly what he should be doing at his age. When it came time to make a decision about public TK or Happy Hearts, it was really about how to best prepare him for a life of learning. We wanted him to enjoy school and exploring. So we decided that his first year at Happy Hearts was about transitioning him out of home care and his second year was about transitioning him into full time school. We felt a five day schedule at Happy Hearts would get him ready for the full public school week. He also got the chance to be big man on campus, which gave him a huge confidence boost. His second year has brought new but familiar teachers, his first best friend and loads of other friends. Most importantly he has continued to learn through a relevant, dynamic and fun process, with a great student to teacher ratio. We have seen only positive change in him and it has us very excited about kindergarten, because we know he is ready after his TK experience at Happy Hearts."
